Studebaker ranked 28th amongst United States companies within the value of wartime manufacturing contracts. An assembly plant in California, Studebaker Pacific Corporation, built engine assemblies and nacelles for B-17s and PV-2 Harpoons. After cessation of hostilities, Studebaker returned to constructing cars. The excessive caliber Kissel vehicles have been manufactured in Hartford 1906 – 1931, making Kissel the second longest car producer in Wisconsin. Of the 27,000 produced fewer than a hundred and fifty are known to exist today, with 27 at present exhibited at the museum. Once the Studebakers discovered this, John Mohler Studebaker enforced a primacy clause, forcing Garford back on to the scheduled production quotas. The choice to drop the Garford name was made and the final product rolled off the assembly line by 1911, leaving Garford alone until it was acquired by John North Willys in 1913.
